Members Only Day Trip
6 a.m. departure approximate 11 p.m. return
The gardens are hosting a special exhibition Origami in the Garden, which features 18 large-scale structures using a technique of lost-wax casting to create origami-like structures in metal and in a scale not possible with paper.
The installations feature flying birds, butterflies, floating boats and a tower that creates the illusion of 1,000 stainless steel origami cranes hovering above the water.
Of course, you will be able to explore the garden’s 79 acres, including rose, Japanese, Chinese and Ottoman gardens to just name a few of the 26-plus different named gardens including the world renown Climatron . The waterlily collection should be in peak bloom during our visit.
Departure is Saturday, September 25, departing at 6 a.m. and returning by approximately 11 p.m.
Travel time each way is approximately 4.5 hours, including a bathroom stop midway.
You will have approximately six hours at Missouri Botanic Garden.
Cost is $75 and includes entrance to Missouri Botanical Garden; your transportation via a 15-seat high top van driven by Gardeners Connect President Dan Burkholder with curbside drop off and pickup and in van bottled water and homemade treats by Brian Chadwick-Robinson, executive director and tour guide.
Lunch will be available for purchase in the garden, and they currently have limited menu options including sandwich and salad options at two locations with outdoor seating only. All in-garden purchases are cashless/no signature required using a credit or debit card.
Dinner will be as a group at a restaurant in St Louis before our return and is not included in the trip price.
Once again, the Kauffman Foundation has generously allowed us to use their parking lot as a departure location.
This will be a long day, but you can sit back and relax on the drive and chat with gardening friends regaling each other with the adventures of the day.
Health and Safety
Current COVID capacity and social distancing guidelines at the gardens require the use of a face mask in restrooms and other enclosed spaces, including some gardens. Some parts of the garden have one-way paths to limit crowding.
All water fountains are currently unavailable though free water bottle refill stations and beverages are available for purchase throughout the garden. Bringing a reusable water bottle is highly recommended.
For the safety of all attendees, Gardeners Connect is requiring all attendees to have a current COVID-19 vaccination. Please be prepared to text or email a copy of your vaccination card to the executive director before departure. Masks will not be required in the van but will be required on certain segments of the trip.
